About

Food and Health News is an initiative by Liesbeth Smit, nutritionist and web designer from Amsterdam. Daily, she collects important news about nutrition and health topics from all over the world. It’s a way for you to keep up to date with what’s happening in the land of nutritional science and policy.

The purpose of this selection of health news is to educate the public, and link to news articles that will not confuse you (without the “wine is good today, and bad tomorrow” effect), are aligned with proper science and an addition to what we already know. It is my hobby to show you the relevant articles, that have not completely distorted the original science. See also BadScience.net.

Note on advertising and writing content paid by the food industry

I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately from companies who’d like me to put up sponsored content. However, I don’t support any company that sells food and will never deceive my readers with written content that is not independent, but paid by the food industry.

Here are some examples of what these companies propose:

“We would like to offer you some free of charge content for foodhealthnews.com. We have access to a substantial team of professional writers in a wide range of disciplines. All we would ask is that for each piece of content you agree with us, you allow us to include one simple text link to the client`s site within the content.”

And sometimes they offer to pay me:

“ We will provide you with the URL, and you can link to it in any manner you see fit. You can write the page in review format or simply write about the usual topics on Foodhealthnews.com  The advert will be for our Health client. We can offer you is 125USD per annum.”

And most of the time, when you agree, you are legally bound to not disclose these practices to your public…which I think is the worst:

Conditions of service: “You will not disclose to any other party any information you receive from us regarding our relationship with you, our clients, these conditions or any other information you receive, directly or indirectly, as a result of your relationship with us, even after termination of this agreement, unless you receive our previous written consent.”

Just so you know, I don’t agree with these ways of marketing, and I don’t make money from this site.
